What is a REALTOR®?
REALTORS® are members of the National Association of REALTORS® who are bound by a Code of Ethics while helping you navigate one of the most complicated and important transactions you’ll make in your lifetime. Ethics, Expertise and Education – the REALTOR® difference at work for you.
Reasons to Become a REALTOR®
Becoming a REALTOR® is a choice – As a real estate licensee you have the choice to join the REALTOR® family of organizations deriving a multitude of benefits. Many brokers require REALTOR® membership of those licensees affiliated with them. Should you choose not to be a REALTOR®, your status with Central Mississippi REALTORS® is that of a non-member with access only to MLS through your principal broker who is the Designated REALTOR®
1. REALTOR® Brand The term REALTOR® is a registered trademark of the National Association of REALTORS® and may only be used by members of the National Association of REALTORS®. Use of the REALTOR® trademark by non- members is a violation of copyright law.
2. REALTOR® Code of Ethics REALTORS® adhere to a strict Code of Ethics that requires a higher standard of conduct than that required by real estate license law.
3. Benefits from three REALTOR® organizations. Joining Central Mississippi REALTORS® automatically entitles you to membership in the Mississippi Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. Each Association offers an abundance of benefits to members including annual conferences, publications, business tools, education webinars, tradeshows and other events scheduled throughout the year.
4. Standard Real Estate Forms and Contracts Through membership in the Mississippi Association of REALTORS®, you have access to over 30 standard real estate contracts and other forms and the ability to access and complete those forms in interactive software, zip

5. 7. REALTOR® Car Tag The REALTOR® car tag includes the REALTOR® trademark with profit going to housing opportunity foundations. Showing your business card with the registered REALTOR® trademark makes you eligible to buy the REALTOR® tag.
8. REALTOR® Designations The earning of REALTOR® professional designations set you apart from competitors. GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute), ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) and dozens of other specialty designations awarded to REALTORS®.
9. REALTOR® Orientation New members learn, in a three-hour classroom setting, the benefits and obligations of belonging to the local, state, and national associations of REALTORS®. Orientation also outlines each organization’s benefits and the rules and regulations applicable to the products and services offered by each.
10. Networking Opportunities Network with other REALTORS® and business affiliates by attending General Membership Meetings that include lunch, timely information and education to keep you up to date on issues that affect your business. Registration for General Membership meetings and all other Central Mississippi REALTOR® events require online registration through the website at https://cmr.realtor. Only members can register online for most these events.
11. A Voice in Governance Have a voice in the Association by the power of the vote. Officers and Directors of the Association are elected annually by the membership.
12. A Voice in Washington REALTORS® have a voice in the election of local, state and national officials and in legislative issues that affect the real estate business through RPAC (REALTORS® Political Action Committee). REALTORS® generously give annually to RPAC knowing its purpose secures their ability to list and sell real estate without unnecessary legislative interference.
13. Discounts Get discounts on services offered through the three REALTOR® Associations.
14. Unique REALTOR® NRDS Access number. REALTORS® are assigned a unique 9-digit number by the National Association of REALTORS®, referred to as a NRDS number (affectionately pronounced “nerds”). This NRDS number gives REALTORS® access to the password protected portion of the Central Mississippi REALTORS®, Mississippi Association of REALTORS®, and the National Association of REALTORS®’ websites. In those “members only” sections of the websites, REALTORS® can access business tools, register for events, receive discounts on event registration, pay bills and more.

MISSISSIPPI REAL ESTATE COMMISSION (MREC)
The Mississippi Real Estate Commission (MREC) works to assure that all real estate transactions are performed in a professional and ethical manner. Administering control over the commercial real estate industry in the State of Mississippi, licensing all real estate brokers and salespersons. MREC protects the consumer by setting forth a set of rules for its licensed members, and is responsible for investigating reports of rule violations and unethical practices.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR)
The National Association of REALTORS® is a leading force in organized real estate, dedicated to its members' success.
Real estate designations and certifications through NAR are specialized credentials for REALTORS®. Both designations and certifications are forms of real estate agent education that require real estate professionals to be active members of NAR. The difference between the two is that a designation requires annual dues, but a certification only requires an application fee without annual dues.
