Some violations of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics are cut and dry; they are not subjective and not distorted by interpretation. In those incidences, the Respondent, the one with a complaint filed against them, has the choice: (a) pay a fine and the matter is closed or (b) request a hearing before Professional Standards Committee. Review the list of CMR’s citations for two reasons: 1) to ensure you are familiar with the behaviors that can result in a complaint being filed against you, and 2) to use when another REALTOR® is violating the Code.
When an alleged violation is part of the Citation Policy, the process and discipline are quick in comparison to the length of time the hearing process takes. However, REALTORS® have a choice. Know the Citation Policy!
REALTORS® are better and stronger when they follow and enforce the Code of Ethics.
